Despite winning the Africa Youth Championship, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria will undergo major restructuring ahead of the 2011 World Youth Championship in Columbia.
A member of the NFF technical committee, Christian Chukwu said in South Africa that much as they appreciate the feat achieved by the players by winning the championship, he declared that some of the players would not make it to the world youth championship in Columbia.
“I want to tell you that we have been speaking with the coach and we have pointed out some things to him. The team must have to be worked on before the world cup in Columbia, which means that we have to bring in some new players to fortify the team ahead of the big challenge at the world cup,” Chukwu said.
The former Super Eagles chief coach declared that he was not roundly satisfied with the general standard of this year’s Africa Youth Championship.
“The standard of this championship has not been too impressive. Maybe, it has to do with the standard of the facilities provided by the host country which may not have allowed the players to express themselves because the organizers provided substandard facilities for a tournament like the Africa youth championship.”
Christian Chukwu noted that the Confederation of Africa Football, CAF must put in place a standard for their games and must ensure that every country wishing to host the championships must abide by the laid down rules.
