Dr Godwin Dabo, former National Auditor of the PDP, has called on the party to zone the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives to the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.
Dabo made the call in Abuja on Wednesday. He said there was a need to allocate positions to those geopolitical zones which delivered to PDP during the just concluded general elections.
According to Dabo, the gesture will serve as a reward for performance for the party.
The PDP chieftain said the South-East was able to deliver millions of the votes to ensure the success of the party.
“There is the need to reward the zone with a position which would serve as an appreciation for their performance during the last elections.
“Positions are part of rewards for performance and deliverance during elections. And, this will serve as appreciation for loyalty to the party,’’ Dabo said.
He said it would be difficult for anybody from the South-West to administer, noting that PDP has only three members from that zone in the House of Representatives.
The party chieftain called for a fair allocation of sensitive positions to each zone in the manner which would reflect the federal character.
Dabo said it was not fair for one zone to clinch the two apex positions of the National Assembly, saying `the north has taken the Senate President, the South should also clinch that of the Speaker.
He appealed to members from the North who were canvassing for the position of Speaker to consider the South East for the position to ensure harmony and “to make them feel they are being rewarded for their loyalty to the PDP.”
Dabo urged professional political lobbists and office seekers to distance themselves from President Jonathan.
He said the president knew those who would transform the country, adding that his experience in governance was enough for him to know what to do.
“I am not interested in any appointment in the administration. I am vindicated that he has been sworn in successfully.
“I advise the president to form a government of transparency, integrity and professionals,” Dabo said. (News Agency of Nigeria)
