The graduate development programme runs for one year. All applicants are hired as permanent FNB employees from the beginning of the programme.
Once candidates are selected they undergo an assessment and then a first-round interview is conducted by one of the graduate recruiters. This is a competency-based interview that also explores your career interests which helps the graduate recruiter to assign you to a role that matches your potential. The final step is an interview with your allocated business unit.
The FNB Graduate Programme
The FNB Graduate Programme addresses specific needs of our business, as well as catering to the career development needs of our graduates. Graduates are hired as permanent employees and placed in roles aligned to their academic background and career interests.
The Graduate Programme consists of training specifically designed to support new graduates and allow them to succeed in our complex business environment. It consists of skills development in technical as well as soft skill areas such as:
- Networking;
- Performance Management;
- Business writing;
- Project Management;
- Self and career development.
In order to expose all graduates to the various career paths that exist in FNB, monthly Knowledge Sharing Sessions are held. During these sessions, each business segment talks about how they fit into FNB and the career opportunities that it has to offer. The graduates have an opportunity to network with the CEO’s and management of each segment.
Each new graduate is assigned to a ‘buddy’ who is there to provide support and advice on how to adapt to the corporate world. The most important support comes from new graduates themselves and team building events are held to allow the graduate class to get to know each other better.
Throughout the year, graduates are provided with feedback and career guidance to make sure ongoing development takes place.
Among the many opportunities available to our graduates are strategic marketing, business analysis, IT development, quantitative analysis, product development, business case development and many others. Many students are surprised to find that we hire a lot if IT graduates as part of the programme, but with FNB’s ongoing innovations, we are constantly in need of IT skills to build new technologies that keep us on the frontline of what is new and exciting
Start Date: Orientation will begin in January 2012.
