The Ogun State Government has declared Thursday (today) as a work-free day to mark the death of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential poll, Bashorun MKO Abiola.
Abiola, it will be recalled, died in detention while trying to actualise his mandate.

A statement by Mrs. Funmi Wakama, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, explained that the holiday was in line with “an existing edict declaring the day a holiday to salute the contribution of Abiola to the struggle for democracy in Nigeria.”
